Professional body and intimate skin lightening treatments in Calgary designed to improve the appearance of hyperpigmentation, discolouration and uneven skin tone. Customized treatment options are available for the neck, underarms, bikini line, pubic bone, inner thighs, knees, elbows and other areas of the body.
Hyperpigmentation is a common skin concern that occurs when an area of the skin produces more melanin than the surrounding skin, causing it to appear darker or uneven in tone.
While often associated with the face, hyperpigmentation can develop almost anywhere on the body. The underarms, neck, bikini line, pubic bone, inner thighs, knees, elbows and other areas exposed to repeated friction or irritation are particularly common concerns.
Body hyperpigmentation is usually harmless, but it can be frustrating—especially when the discoloration remains long after the original irritation, injury or inflammation has healed.
Skin lightening does not mean changing your natural skin colour. Our goal is to improve areas of excess pigmentation and uneven tone so that the treated skin appears more even with your natural surrounding skin.
There isn't one single cause of darker or uneven skin. Pigmentation can develop gradually over time or remain behind following repeated irritation or inflammation.
Common contributing factors can include:
Sometimes several factors are involved at the same time. Identifying what may be contributing to your pigmentation helps us choose the most appropriate treatment approach and recommend ways to reduce continued irritation where possible.
Body hyperpigmentation can occur almost anywhere, which is why treatment is not limited to traditional "intimate" areas.
Common treatment areas include:
Intimate skin lightening at Sonam's Esthetic Touch refers specifically to the external skin of the bikini line and pubic bone/mons area where unwanted pigmentation may develop.
Bikini Line: Treatment is performed on the external skin along the bikini line and groin. Treatment does not include the labia or anal area.
Pubic Bone / Mons Area: Treatment is limited to the external skin over the pubic bone/mons area and does not extend onto the labia.
Buttocks / Bum Cheeks: Hyperpigmentation on the external skin of the buttocks can also be treated. This does not include the anal area or skin immediately surrounding the anus.
If you have pigmentation in another area of the body that is not listed above, please contact us. Suitability can be assessed based on the location, appearance and possible cause of the pigmentation.
Hyperpigmentation is not the same for everyone. The location of the pigmentation, what may be contributing to it, your skin type, sensitivity and the depth or severity of discoloration can all influence which treatment is most appropriate.
At Sonam's Esthetic Touch, we offer two professional approaches to body hyperpigmentation: a gentle Natural Skin Lightening Treatment and a Professional Hyperpigmentation Chemical Peel.
You do not need to choose your treatment before booking. Your skin and area of concern will be assessed so that the most appropriate option can be recommended.
Our Natural Skin Lightening Treatment is a gentle, professional treatment designed to improve the appearance of hyperpigmentation, darkened skin and uneven skin tone while respecting your natural skin colour.
This option can be used on many areas of the body and is particularly useful when treating more sensitive external areas such as the bikini line, pubic bone, underarms and inner thighs.
The professional treatment combines cleansing, exfoliation and targeted skin-brightening ingredients to help remove surface buildup, support a more even-looking skin tone and gradually improve areas of unwanted discoloration.
The professional formulas contain a blend of botanical, antioxidant, soothing and skin-brightening ingredients, including:
The focus is on gradually improving areas of excess pigmentation rather than bleaching the skin or attempting to make it lighter than its natural tone.
Every area of hyperpigmentation is different.
Some clients may begin to notice visible improvement following their first professional treatment, while older, deeper or more persistent pigmentation generally requires a series of treatments and consistent home care.
The number of treatments needed can depend on the cause of the pigmentation, how long it has been present, the area being treated, your natural skin tone, ongoing friction or irritation, hormonal influences and consistency with recommended home care.
Results are gradual and individual results will vary.
For certain areas and types of body hyperpigmentation, a professional chemical peel may be recommended as a more targeted approach to improving discoloration, uneven skin tone and texture.
At Sonam's Esthetic Touch, we use an advanced next-generation, non-inflammatory chemical peel specifically selected for its ability to address multiple pathways involved in pigmentation and skin renewal—without relying on the aggressive peeling, significant inflammation or extended downtime traditionally associated with chemical peels.
Chemical peels are not performed on the labia, anal area or other internal/mucosal tissue.
Not all chemical peels work by causing large sheets of visible peeling.
This advanced peel is designed to work with the skin's natural physiology, encouraging controlled exfoliation and healthy cellular renewal while supporting the skin barrier.
Exfoliation typically occurs microscopically, meaning you may experience little to no visible peeling even though the treatment is actively working within the skin.
This makes it especially useful when treating hyperpigmentation, where creating unnecessary inflammation can be counterproductive—particularly in skin that is already prone to developing post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation.
This treatment may be recommended for body areas affected by:
Because hyperpigmentation can have many different causes, your skin and treatment area will be assessed before determining whether a chemical peel is the most appropriate option.
One of the biggest misconceptions about chemical peels is that more peeling means a better treatment.
It doesn't.
The goal of this treatment is not to aggressively strip or inflame the skin. Instead, exfoliation occurs primarily in microfine, often nearly invisible particles, allowing the skin to renew itself while maintaining greater barrier integrity.
There is typically little to no downtime, and normal daily activities can usually be resumed immediately. Some clients may notice brighter, smoother-looking skin within approximately a week, while improvements continue to build with regular treatments.
When treating hyperpigmentation, we want to improve existing pigment without unnecessarily irritating the skin and creating additional inflammation.
This is particularly important for clients who are prone to post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation, where excessive irritation can actually trigger additional melanin production and leave the skin looking darker.
For this reason, our approach to chemical exfoliation focuses on long-term skin health, controlled renewal and maintaining the integrity of the skin barrier rather than aggressive resurfacing.
No. A chemical peel is not automatically the best treatment simply because an area has hyperpigmentation.
Treatment selection depends on the location of the pigmentation, your skin type, sensitivity, what may be causing the discoloration, the condition of your skin barrier and your treatment history.
For more sensitive external areas, the Natural Skin Lightening Treatment may be the more appropriate choice. For suitable body areas where more advanced exfoliation and pigmentation correction are desired, the Professional Hyperpigmentation Chemical Peel may be recommended.
Chemical peels are not performed on the labia, anal area or other internal/mucosal tissue.
The best treatment depends on more than simply how dark an area appears. We consider the location, skin type, sensitivity, possible cause of the pigmentation, history of irritation or inflammation and your individual treatment goals.
In some cases, the gentler Natural Skin Lightening Treatment may be the better approach. In others, a professional chemical peel may provide a more appropriate level of exfoliation and pigmentation targeting.
Our priority is to choose the treatment that makes the most sense for your skin, rather than using the same approach for every client.
Professional treatments can improve existing pigmentation, but they cannot always eliminate the underlying reason your skin produced additional pigment in the first place.
If the area continues to experience friction, chafing, shaving irritation, ingrown hairs, hormonal influences, sun exposure or repeated inflammation, new pigmentation can develop over time.
This is why treating the cause wherever possible is an important part of maintaining your results.
For example, someone who develops darkening along the bikini line from repeated shaving irritation may see improvement with skin-lightening treatments, but continuing to experience frequent razor irritation and ingrown hairs can stimulate new post-inflammatory pigmentation.
Maintenance treatments and appropriate home care may therefore be recommended depending on your individual concern.
Professional treatment is only one part of improving stubborn body hyperpigmentation.
Depending on the treatment selected and the area being treated, specific home-care products may be recommended to continue supporting a more even-looking skin tone between appointments.
Just as importantly, reducing repeated irritation can help prevent new pigmentation from developing.
This may include making changes to shaving or hair-removal habits, reducing friction and chafing, avoiding irritating products and protecting exposed areas from UV exposure.
Your recommended home care will depend on your skin and treatment plan.
Proper preparation helps reduce unnecessary irritation and allows us to treat the skin safely.
Before your appointment:
Additional preparation instructions may be provided depending on the treatment selected and the area being treated.
We do not recommend using DIY or homemade skin-lightening remedies such as lemon or lime juice, tomato, baking soda, undiluted acids, harsh homemade scrubs or other bleaching/lightening mixtures on the skin.
Although these remedies are commonly shared online and may be described as "natural," natural does not automatically mean gentle or appropriate for the skin. Highly acidic, alkaline or abrasive ingredients can irritate the skin, weaken the skin barrier and disrupt the skin's normal pH balance. This can lead to dryness, sensitivity, redness, inflammation or even irritation resembling a chemical burn.
This is particularly important when trying to improve hyperpigmentation because inflammation and skin injury can stimulate additional melanin production and potentially make discoloration worse rather than better, especially in skin that is prone to post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation.
If you have been using any DIY skin-lightening remedies, please discontinue them for a minimum of 2 weeks, or until all irritation, sensitivity, peeling or inflammation has completely subsided, whichever is longer, before your professional treatment to allow the skin barrier adequate time to recover.
Aftercare varies depending on whether you receive the Natural Skin Lightening Treatment or a Professional Hyperpigmentation Chemical Peel. You will receive instructions specific to your treatment and the area treated.
The treated area must remain dry for a minimum of 6 hours following treatment.
During this time, please avoid:
This allows the products applied during your treatment to remain on the skin undisturbed.
Following your aftercare carefully is especially important when treating hyperpigmentation. Irritating or inflaming the skin can itself stimulate additional pigment production, particularly in skin that is prone to post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation.
